Deborah Rich, PhD, Licensed Psychologist, PMH-C, PSYPACT Certified has over 35 years of specialty experience providing patient care, professional training, and program development specific to the field of pregnancy loss and newborn death. Deb was first trained in the gold standard caregiver and coordinator certification of Resolve through Sharing in 1989. She immediately staffed support groups and developed professional training models to increase the number of prepared caregivers in her geographical area. In no time, she was involved in the national organization which was later founded formally as the Pregnancy Loss and Infant Death alliance, serving as a founding board member. In 1995, Deb founded the Shoshana Center for Reproductive Health Psychology while completing her doctorate and undertaking pioneering research into best clinical practices which improve grief outcomes.
Deb was the first and only Coordinator of Pregnancy Loss and Perinatal Mental Health at Fairview Health Services, a Minnesota multi-hospital and multi-clinic organization from 1999 – 2013 when the department was eliminated. It was during that tenure that she learned the inner workings of how services are delivered in the medical setting, exposure which is both rare and essential to the specialty therapist. Deb was instrumental in establishing policies, procedures, staff training, and optimal patient care. It is these deep experiences which make her training uniquely qualified in preparing psychotherapists for the full patient journey.
When her role at Fairview ended, Deb built up Shoshana Center into a fulltime perinatal therapy and training practice and launched MommaCareTM Training and Consultation in 2014. Deb was a founding steering committee member of Pregnancy and Postpartum Support Minnesota in 2006, has been on the national faculty of Resolve through Sharing Perinatal Bereavement Training since 2006 and is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences. Deb currently serves as Chair of the International Marce Society Pregnancy Loss Special Interest Group. She fervently pursues her vision of creating an international community of therapists with shared passion and expertise. She has expanded her scope to Israel where she has begun doing teaching and consultation, albeit interspersed with visiting her grandchildren.
