Katie Kirkenmeier

Katie's clinical practice started with a focus in trauma after working exclusively with survivors of sexual violence for 7 years. Trauma has a profound impact on every area of our lives and can continue to transcend across multiple generations. Katie's goal has always been to provide a space for individuals to be able to regain power and control over their lives, not for their experiences to be what controls them. Trauma survivors often experience a loss of sense of self and identity and as Katie began working with more parents, she realized how profound the loss of self can become for new parents and individuals in the perinatal years. Katie's passion for working with perinatal mental health is personal as her own infertility journey showed her there is not adequate support for individuals going through infertility and during the perinatal period. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are very prevalent and yet there still isn’t much conversation about them. Katie enjoys being able to normalize experiences for parents and help them understand they’re not alone and do not have to continue to feel unwell. Her goal still remains to provide a safe and inclusive space where every person can feel comfortable enough to find their genuine sense of self again. Katie is a safe space for ALL people of any gender, sexuality, religion, race, size and identity.
