Medha S. Kudaisya

Medha, also known as The Brown Therapist Mama, is a psychotherapist who specializes in the intersection of trauma and maternal mental health. A licensed clinical social worker, Medha's passion is to support folx through the challenges and identity shifts that occur during the family-building phase of life. An immigrant herself, Medha was inspired to make a career switch and support other persons of color after facing several challenges navigating the pregnancy and postpartum period without the support of close friends and family. It takes a village- as the adage goes- and she aspires to be part of that village for birthing people and their partners, people navigating fertility challenges, and folx who have survived pregnancy and infant loss. Medha identifies as a trauma therapist with certifications in EMDR, perinatal mental health, and interpersonal & gender-based violence. She utilizes a holistic approach with her clients, incorporating elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, mindfulness, and insight-based psychotherapy. Her treatment style is also influenced by feminist, matricentric, and systems theory, looking to the broken systems that fail mothers rather than a focus on individual pathology. She is fluent in Hindi, Bengali & Urdu and also runs support groups for survivors of intimate partner violence and birth trauma.
