Heather McMillen

Heather is a licensed professional counselor in Washington D.C., Virginia, South Carolina, Florida, and Utah. Heather came to the role of psychotherapist as a second career, she has an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Masters in Community Counseling. Heather began her career in domestic violence shelters working to help women and children acclimate to big changes and begin the healing process. Heather worked for Fairfax County Office for Women doing individual and group counseling with people affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Through this work experience, Heather gained an understanding of trauma-informed work and has completed additional education around working with trauma. Heather is also an EMDR certified therapist. Heather opened her private practice in 2013 and combined her professional experience with her personal experiences of childbirth. Heather noticed how 2 different traumatic births affected her and that her professional experience could help others. Heather has specific training in perinatal mood disorders, infant loss and grief, birth trauma, infertility, and transition to parenthood. Heather is known to be a collaborative practitioner who works within the Maternal Health Community. Heather loves working with clients during this huge developmental stage of life as the awareness and motivation for change is huge as people become parents.
