Sam Breslin co-owns Powerful Women's Health, an interdisciplinary pelvic health physical therapy and mental health practice in Monmouth County, NJ. She grew up in northern NJ and attended the University of Virginia for her undergraduate degree, followed by NYU for her MSW. Sam is a licensed clinical social worker and has 13 years of clinical experience--she is a passionate therapist with experience working with women and families in maternity, labor & delivery, pediatric, and NICU units of hospitals, as well as various outpatient settings. She is Perinatal Mental Health Certified and EMDR-trained, giving her a multi-faceted approach to care with a focus on trauma. Through PWH, Sam and her sister, Kim, focus on women’s health, particularly helping clients during pregnancy and postpartum. They also help women find lasting relief from pelvic pain, urinary and bowel challenges, sexual dysfunction, and difficulties with stress, anxiety, relationships, trauma, and more. PWH is the convergence of their two lenses and careers that illuminated the reality of wellness—the indistinguishable mind-body connection and the importance of understanding and caring for the whole self as an interwoven system. They aim to de-pathologize and de-stigmatize as much as they possibly can. Sam and Kim teamed up with dietitian, Katie Kline, and created a one-of-a-kind workbook called "Becoming Two & Keeping You: A Whole Self Guide for Powerful Women Planning for Pregnancy," aimed at preventing burnout, panic, avoidance, and shutdown--arming birthing people and parents with much-needed information that isn't often emphasized or taught at all in typical prenatal/postpartum care. They believe that knowledge is power and that all parents deserve this kind of guide that weaves anatomy, nutrition, movement, identity, emotions, and relationships all together, the way they truly exist. This collection is about moms and birthing people, for them (as opposed to baby care), and is full of actionable steps, checklists, diagrams, and self-reflection prompts so you can customize the information to your real life. It’s packed with lots of tips, food for thought, and much-deserved reassurance. It's an excellent supplement to therapeutic work too. (It's available of Amazon!)
